Part Sizes Allowances for Edgebanding

When I draw a cabinet assembly in SU the parts are depicted as a completed part size. Lets just talk about a bin with 4 sides and a bottom. 20 inches wide by 20 inches long by 5 inches deep. Material thickness is 3/4".

Sides would be 5 x 20, Front and Back 5 x 18.5. Bottom is 18.5 x 18.5.

Fabber flattens my SU components and sends to the CNC software. Parts are cut and box finishes to size.

Problem… The components need to be edgebanded . The front of the sides get 1/8" ABS. The other exposed edges get 1/32 Plastic. The joining surfaces (to be glued) get no banding. .
Where is the part undersized to allow for the addition of the edgebanding.
Where and how does the undersizing occur?

Fabber is a “what you see is what you get” exporter, so if you want that panel undersized you need to draw it as such. The edgebanding should be a different “part” that’s wrapped around the edge of the part as another component.

You can use the Follow Me tool in SketchUp to make edgeband pretty easily.

To make export easy, just put all of the edgebands on a layer so that they can be turned off when you export.
